Our privacy promise
What information do we actually hold?
Very little.
Username — the name you choose for your NewsModerly account.
Email address — used for account verification, password recovery and essential account messages. We do not need your real name.
Password hash — NewsModerly never stores your password itself. Your password is converted into a one-way cryptographic hash for sign-in.
Internal account ID — a random technical identifier used by the database to connect your account to your settings. It is not a public or customer-facing account number.
Your news choices — followed topics, keywords, exclusions, saved stories, dismissed stories and similar preferences are stored so NewsModerly can personalise your own feed.
Subscription status — when billing is enabled, we store only the status and provider references needed to know whether your subscription is active, trialling, cancelled or has a payment problem.
How we use your news preferences
Your preferences exist to make NewsModerly more useful to you. If you follow China, EVs or Nintendo, exclude football, dismiss a story or save one for later, NewsModerly uses those choices to shape your own experience.
We do not use those choices to create an advertising profile, sell audience segments, or market any products to you.
Payments
Payment card details are handled directly by our secure payment provider. NewsModerly does not receive or store your full payment card number.
We receive only the limited subscription information needed to know whether your subscription is active, renewed or cancelled.
Service providers
NewsModerly is built so outside services receive only what they need for a specific job.
Email delivery — our email provider receives your email address only when it needs to send an account verification, password reset or other essential service message.
Payments — payment details are entered directly with our secure payment provider. NewsModerly receives the subscription status and provider reference needed to run your membership, not your full card number.
Hosting — our hosting and database providers operate the infrastructure that stores and serves NewsModerly. They do not receive your information for their own advertising or marketing use.
AI and news processing — NewsModerly summarises and classifies news content. We do not send your username, email address or personal news profile to AI providers for the purpose of creating story summaries.
The small amount of technical data needed to run an account
NewsModerly uses a small amount of technical information to keep your account working securely — for example session information that keeps you signed in and short-lived security records used to protect login and password recovery.
How long do we keep information?
Your username, email address and news preferences are kept while your NewsModerly account is active.
Security information is deliberately short-lived: password-reset links expire after 30 minutes, email-verification links expire after 60 minutes, and login sessions expire automatically.
When account deletion is available at launch, deleting your account will remove your account and personal news-preference data from the live service. Any transaction records that Candanova Limited is legally required to keep for tax or accounting purposes will be kept separately for the required statutory period and will not be used to personalise NewsModerly.
Your rights
Because NewsModerly deliberately holds very little personal information, a privacy request is usually simple. The personal account information associated with you is your username, email address, internal account identifier, subscription status and the news preferences attached to that account.
You can ask us for a copy of that information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where applicable.
To make a privacy request, email [email protected].
